Last week, when "Volcano " was all over the place here in Europe, everyone was discussing air bans, stalled travels, halted auto industry, disrupted tourism, suffering supply chain companies, etc but some of us "sunshine" minds (my friends and I) were discussing how and who can make money out of this volcanic ash cloud effect?? We're really thinking of someone other than the obvious hay-makers like railways, media and telecommunications guys......A few days later, i.e. yesterday, I read this volcanic-hot piece of news in FT that read Cisco Systems completed its acquisition of Norwegian video conferencing company Tandberg!!!! Wow, what a sweet timing it is!
If you look at the video-conferencing business curves for last 5 days, its historical high!! Extolling the contributions of internet and digitalization to gloabl sustainability and economics, Cisco's take-over feat also underpins a strong business lesson of choosing the right metal to strike and accelerating the process at the right time. Kudos to iron-strikers!
